Veterans Day Parade Information Guide

2019 Escondido VetFest Parade Information and Schedule

»  REGISTRATION – 7:30 AM

Registration begins at 7:30 AM and takes place at the corner of Grand Ave and N. Broadway.  Each entry will need to send a representative to the registration desk before 8:30 AM on the day of the parade. At that time, final line up will be given to the judges and no other entries will be allowed.

We highly recommend checking in before road closures take place at 8 AM. If you arrive after the road closures, you may be asked to park outside the barricades and walk in.

»  PARADE ENTRY STAGING AND PARKING

All applicants who have been accepted to participate in this parade will receive an acceptance letter that will contain your designated staging number. Please reference the Staging Area Map to locate your organizations assigned position. There are designated areas for bus, equestrian, and participant drop-off. There is also limited parking at the beginning and the end of the parade route. Parking lots and drop-off locations are marked on the Parade Route & Staging map.  Please give the Map to the bus driver or the leader of your group.

Please refer and adhere to the maps and all GUIDELINES given to ensure that the parade is organized and enjoyed by all.

»  TIMELINE

  • 7:30 - 9:00 AM:  LINE UP. All entries will need to be in their line up position no later than 9:00 AM. 
  • 9:30 AM - STEP OFF.
  • 11:00 - Parade Ends.
  • 12:30 - VetFest at the American Legion Post begins.

The Parade will start promptly at 9:30 AM on Monday, November 11th.

»  THE PARADE ROUTE

The parade starts on Grand Ave at the corner of N. Broadway heading East on Grand. It will continue East on Grand to N. Juniper where the Parade will perform a U-Turn and proceed back down Grand Ave. to the Finish Line at the corner of N. Broadway.  At this point, please turn Right onto Broadway or N. Orange St and proceed either to one of the designated parking lots or head over to the American Legion Post at 230 E. Park Ave.

»  REVIEW STANDS

The main Review Stand will be located at the corner of Grand and N. Broadway with two additional Review Stands located at the corner of Grand and Escondido and the corner of Grand and N. Juniper.

There will be Information Booths, Services Booths, and Static Displays at the Maple Street Plaza on Grand and at the American Legion Post.

There will be a Patriotic Store Front competition all along Grand Ave. Everyone is invited to participate and cast your vote.

2019 Escondido VetFest Parade Information and Rules

The Escondido VetFest parade is for the enjoyment of all the participants and the spectators. Please read and advise all members of your entry of the following information and rules.

Important Rules

There is to be no throwing, distributing, tossing, or handing out items to the crowd along the parade route (including candy, pamphlets, flyers, and brochures) OR any activity that would entice spectators onto the parade route from the curbside. Failure to comply will result in the IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION of your entry.

No parking in the staging areas until the roads have been closed (7:30AM), the barricades have been installed, and the Parade Marshals are on site. If you arrive early, please park off-site.

Absolutely no alcoholic beverages will be permitted. No political campaigning. ANIMAL GROUPS MUST PICK UP AFTER THEIR ANIMALS. In the interest of safety and traffic control, no entry shall double back along the parade route while the parade is in progress or before officials have re-opened the route to traffic.

One - and only one - representative from each group should be designated to check in for your unit between 7:30AM and 9:00AM. The VetFest Parade steps off promptly at 9:30AM.

NO STOPPING ALONG THE PARADE ROUTE

Entry Monitor Responsibilities

In order to maintain contact with each entry as it moves down the Parade route, the entry must assign one member of its group to be the monitor.

The monitor leads the entry by carrying or wearing the lineup number, marching in front of the unit, maintaining an appropriate distance between your unit and the unit in front of you, and watching the Parade Marshals to know when to stop and when to move forward.

The monitor communicates with the members of the entry to keep them together and moving at the same pace and to make sure the entry follows Parade rules.

The volunteer monitor should keep pace with the Parade and allow no more than 20 feet between units.

Code of Conduct

To ensure the quality and enjoyment of the VetFest Parade and to promote a safe and positive atmosphere for the various entities of the Parade, participants of the VetFest Parade and persons involved with this event shall abide by the following Code of Conduct:

  • All persons shall act with respect towards other persons, their privacy and safety.
  • Physical or verbal abuse of any kind will not be tolerated.
  • All persons shall treat public and private property and equipment with respect.
  • Parade rules and regulations shall be observed at all times.

In General

Please pay proper respect to the residents along the staging streets. Place all rubbish in provided containers. Do not harass residents or their pets. Be respectful of residential property by staying in the street at all times.
